Free Pell Grant Are Offered. Apply. |
Education is truly a privilege that not everyone has available to them. In the United States, many are stopped short of their dreams because of the high cost associated with it. For those that find themselves in a difficult position and want to further their level of education there are solutions like Pell Grants. But, it is important to learn how to qualify for Pell Grants.
For starters, it is a federal grant program for post-secondary education. It is one in which does not require repayment. And, because of that, it is offered and awarded only to those that require financial aid. The financial status of the student is determined by certain criteria that must be met. Therefore, the student must come from a low income household. Basically, the parents assets and income are considered when the student is dependent. When the student is independent, the focus is on his or her own assets and income.
In addition to qualifying the student with regards to the financial status, the government will review other things in the application. The amount of the Federal Pell Grant will also be based on the grades of the particular student. So, it is safe to say that a student who has better grades will have an increased chance of receiving a higher amount of financial aid. But that is not all! The length of education to complete a program of study and whether it will be on a part time or full time basis will also be considered before awarding a student...
Unfortunately, the Pell Grant, which is funded by the federal government, fell victim to cuts. But, at the same time, its limit was raised. The maximum award from now to 2011 is at $5,800 an increase of about $450 from the previous year, but they are not currently awarding the full amount.
While it is an excellent way to benefit from some financial aid, the award has decreased over the years with regards to coverage. For instance, two decades ago it could cover up to 60% of the cost of education. Now, it has been slashed to half that amount.
These government grants can be obtained by individuals who can demonstrate the need for financial aid. For instance, a student who lives in a household that the family income is less than $60,000 would qualify for such a program. However, there are some criteria and rules that accompany Pell Grants, such as a student may only attend one school at a time.
In order to apply for such a grand, one must file a FAFSA, or a Free Application for State Student Aid. Once this is done, either the student will receive the report, or the institution where wishes to enroll. This report will notify said student of his or her eligibility for the Pell Grant.
These grants are awarded to students who have the financial need, who have not obtained their first bachelor's degree, and who are enrolled in participating institutions. The student will then, if approved, receive payment every semester, trimester, or quarter, depending on the situation and the institution.
In addition to Pell Grants, any student can also take advantage of other financial aid with respect to their education and academic goals they may have set for themselves. Therefore, if one qualifies for this type of grant, it does not stop them in any way from seeking aid from other sources. In other words, one can use various sources to ensure the financial aid they need in order to better themselves in their future career goals.
One thing that is important is for any student to be able to realize their dreams when it comes to education and the life that they aim to live. Through free awards and loans, that is possible. But, one should learn everything possible about the different financial aid programs in order to ensure they apply for any and all that can help them.
It would certainly be in your favor to consult with the financial aid office of your educational institution as they will be very helpful in providing you with different solutions for the aid you need. Of course, this would be in the form of Federal Pell Grants but also other options. Remember, these individuals have the experience and know-how that you may not. In other words, they can truly simplify matters, answer your many queries and ensure whether or not they actually support such programs.
Having said all that, it would be important to mention the fact that the Obama administration has provided such programs for mothers who are single and are working full time, in low income earning households. So, this is the best solution for those moms who want to make huge changes to their lives, for the better and do so without cost, as repayment is not required. Quite easily, a mother can make these changes to not only improve her own life, but that of her children as well. In addition to working toward an exciting career that could bring in more money to the household, it will encourage her children to believe in education and the good it does. This in itself is quality education.
Again, even for these single moms, they have the opportunity to apply for other free money and loans in addition to the Federal Pell Grants, just as other students can. The fact that the Pell Grants are limited in funds shows in plain sight that this amount awarded will most likely not cover the actual costs of the education and so, you would be required to find other sources of aid as well. In this manner, you would be able to maintain the lifestyle you and your family were accustomed to, but at the same time earning a degree to better that lifestyle and provide for your loved ones in a short period of time.
